Monroe County Historic Preservation Program.
The Historic Florida Keys Foundation receives ongoing financial support from Monroe County, in exchange for assisting their Historic Preservation program.
The Tavernier Historic District was officially designated in August 2005, an exciting development following a recommendation of the Tavernier Livable CommuniKeys (LCP) Master Plan. The County Commission also adopted locally appropriate design guidelines, based upon the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Throughout this process, Historic Florida Keys staff provided extensive comment and technical advice.

Historic Florida Keys Foundation staff also traveled with a delegation from Monroe County to Tallahassee to advocate for the preservation of the Old Seven Mile Bridge. Since then, the State and the County have reached an agreement to each pay half of the costs of repairing this historic link between Knight’s Key and Pigeon Key.
